Graduation is a milestone worth celebrating, and one of the best ways to honor your time at NC State is with photos in the places that made your college years memorable. As a Raleigh-based photographer and NC State alum, I’ve been photographing Wolfpack seniors for more than five years and have worked with over 100 grads! After capturing so many sessions, I’ve learned which spots on campus not only look beautiful in photos but also hold a special place in Wolfpack tradition.
Here are my top five favorite NC State senior photo locations for grad portraits:
1. The Memorial Belltower
No NC State senior photo gallery feels complete without the Belltower. This iconic landmark is the heart of campus and a symbol of Wolfpack pride. Throughout the spring, this location is almost never seen without a group of NC State grads waiting their turn to get these iconic shots. If you're lucky, you may even get a private tour of the inside of the Belltower by Mr. Stafford, who is often there waiting to share his passion for the university with graduating seniors! Morning or golden hour light here is especially flattering, giving your photos a soft, timeless glow.
2. Carmichael Gym
If fitness, sports, or wellness played a role in your college journey, Carmichael is a fantastic photo location. Often overlooked during grad sessions, it is a very creative, fun option if you want something unique beyond the traditional landmarks.
3. Carter–Finley Stadium
Wolfpack football fans, this one’s for you. Carter–Finley is a must if game days were some of your favorite NC State memories. While the stadium is typically locked (unless you have a personal connection!), even the stadium exterior can add variety to your grad gallery. Consider bringing footballs, jerseys, beers to shotgun, or friends to make these shots extra personal.
4. Leazar Courtyard
Leazar Courtyard is one of those hidden gems on campus. With its charming brick walls and cozy atmosphere, it makes for a perfect spot to capture more intimate portraits. It’s usually quieter than the main landmarks, which helps create relaxed, natural photos.
5. Holladay Hall (Especially in Bloom!)
Located within eyesight of the Belltower, Holladay Hall is beautiful year-round, but especially so in the spring when the pink flowering trees bloom — usually around the first week of April. The soft petals and historic architecture create a dreamy backdrop that instantly elevates any senior photo session. This is hands-down one of my favorite spots during grad season.
Each of these places represents a piece of the NC State experience — from football games and campus traditions to hidden courtyards and spring blooms. When you choose your senior photo session, think about the memories you want to look back on. The best sessions aren’t just about pretty backdrops; they’re about telling your story and capturing what your time at NC State meant to you.
As someone who has photographed over 100 NC State seniors in the last five years, I know how to help you feel comfortable in front of the camera while guiding you to the spots that fit your personality best. Whether you’re after classic, iconic shots or something more unique, your gallery should feel like you.
Ready to celebrate your Wolfpack story? I’d love to help you create senior photos that reflect your time at NC State. Book your NC State senior session here to secure your spot — spring dates fill up quickly!
