If you're dreaming of an unforgettable Outer Banks destination wedding, Josie and Cody's celebration on the Corolla 4x4 beach was the perfect example of why so many couples choose to gather their closest family and friends on the North Carolina coast.
As a North Carolina wedding photographer, this wedding was especially exciting to document because Corolla is my family's go-to spot along the Outer Banks. Growing up, I spent countless summers visiting Jockey's Ridge, eating pancakes at Stack 'Em High, taking surf lessons, and looking for wild horses. So when Josie and Cody invited their friends and family to gather at the Outer Banks for their destination wedding, I knew exactly why they chose this special place.
Rather than a traditional venue experience, they chose Hill Runner, a stunning oceanfront beach house on the famous 4x4 beaches of the Outer Banks. Their wedding wasn't just a single day, it was a vacation, reunion, and celebration all wrapped into one.
One of the most unique things about planning a wedding in Corolla is the possibility of seeing the area's famous wild horses. Throughout the week, the horses wandered near the house creating unforgettable moments for guests. They even made a special appearance during wedding portraits!
The day itself was relaxed, joyful, and focused on what mattered most: spending quality time with the people they love. Friends and family enjoyed ocean views, a relaxing morning by the pool before getting ready, and a ceremony just steps from the ocean. Every detail reflected the laid-back atmosphere that makes destination weddings in the Outer Banks so special.
As the sun set, guests gathered for an evening full of celebration, laughter, and dancing. And in true destination wedding fashion, the night ended with everyone jumping into the pool!
As a photographer, I love seeing how destination weddings create space for meaningful moments together and memories that extend beyond the wedding day itself.
