A Romantic Charleston Engagement Session | Sam & Selena

When Sam and Selena reached out about their engagement photos, they wanted something unique — a setting that felt romantic, timeless, and different from their everyday life in Texas. Even though they had never been to Charleston before, they chose it as the backdrop for their destination engagement session, and I’m so glad they did.

As a wedding and engagement photographer based in Raleigh, NC, I love traveling with couples to new places. Exploring Charleston together with Sam and Selena gave their photos an added layer of excitement and authenticity — every spot felt fresh, and their reactions to the beauty around them were so genuine.

Cypress Gardens | The Iconic “Notebook” Scene

Our first stop was Cypress Gardens, made famous by The Notebook’s rowboat scene. Surrounded by mossy cypress trees and glassy water, they shared quiet moments that felt like something out of a movie.

The session took place in July, with the greenery in full bloom and soft light filtering through the trees. My focus was on keeping the images true-to-color and candid, so their connection and the beautiful, low country setting spoke for themselves.

Sullivan’s Island Engagement Photos

After Cypress Gardens, we headed out to Sullivan’s Island to finish the session by the water. The open skies, soft sand, and ocean breeze created a relaxed atmosphere that felt like the perfect contrast to the greenery of the gardens.

Sam and Selena’s Charleston engagement session was romantic, fun, and full of discovery. Experiencing Cypress Gardens and Sullivan’s Island with them for the first time made the day even more meaningful.
